Flashmob Opera

Did anyone else see "Flashmob Opera" on BBC3 last week?

For those of you who didn't, it was an hour-ong 'opera' based on Faust, but using well-known songs from a variety of operas. For those of you who don't know what a "flashmob" is, it's a spontaneous gathering of people arranged via a method such as e-mail or text to do a particular thing, e.g. meet at Brighton pier wearing something orange!

In the case of Flashmob Opera, there was a mixture of 'regular' people such as one of the BBC's orchestras, and a number of 'flashmobbers' doing some of the dancing and singing. It was broadcast live from a big shopping centre during late-night shopping.

I've finally made it on here (and a very fun place it seems!) and just thought I'd make my first full post an announcement to say that I've finally got around to putting some of our wedding photos on the web (it's only taken me three months :o\ ).

So, Mini-Bee (known as Hildebrand Maria Giuseppe Buttercup Despard Yum-Yum Bee to their friends)is now a week late - can't think where they've inherited that characteristic from?!

Angie's now seriously lardie. We've been eating curries for a couple of weeks now and, yes, we've tried everything else possible to speed things up... several times!!

So I guess we'll just have to wait until they're ready to make their appearance.

Device Introduced To Find Nearest Pub
A device has been introduced by two entrepreneurs in London that directs a person to the nearest pub. This device is a computer that is attached to the wrist of a person and it then directs the individual to the nearest pub. The device which has been named "eSleeve" uses satellite positioning to locate where the person is and then locates the four nearest pubs to the person. It can also recognize the users voice and if they happen to get drunk can aid them in finding their way home.

As you can tell I'm rather bored as I managed to find this!

The perils of my kitchen ceiling!

Well everyone, just to let you know that I've settled back in Soton. It was all going so well till the day after I moved in, part of the kitchen ceiling fell down! It was mostly the plaster from the kitchen ceiling and we could see the wood underneath that was black and sponge like! I am rather scared to use the bathroom now incase I go through the floor! The landlord came to fix it and when I went in the kitchen he was poking the black sponge wood and told me "it's not as bad as it looks!"

As far as I know the bathroom is still being held up by this disintergrating wood!

I will keep you all updated if it falls down again! In the meantime not much else exciting has happened!

Did find an interesting product on the shopping channels called "instant fisherman", this handy product means "you need never come home from work without fish again!" How totally useful is that?! I will keep an eye out for any other useful products!

Can anyone explain why Steve Tyler and the non-member stage crew didn't get a thank you gift this year? I understand and agree that company members should not get gifts but the £5.00 a person it would cost to say "thank you" properly could end up costing the company a lot more in the long run if this is the attitude we're going to treat our business associates?

Sorry I haven't Blog'd for a while - been busy with other things as you can see - this room used to be piled high with stuff that had to be chucked or stored elsewhere... big job!

Anyway pretty much ready now - only 5 weeks to go, give or take!

PS. I blog'd this photo from www.flickr.com, a great site for storing/sharing photos. All you do is add details of your Blogger account to your Flickr account and it does it's cunning stuff.

I believe that if you have an e-mail enabled camera phone, you should be able to blog photos direct from your phone - how cool is that?!

Bumble in Brighton

Just in case any of you cared (I'm sure you all do!), I thought you might be interested to know that after 14+ years working in Haywards Heath, my job has now moved to Brighton.

The job's unchanged (at least for now), but takes a bit longer to get to/from work each day!

The new office (new to me, not a new building) is just down from Brighton Station which is quite handy if using the train, but pants if driving. Still, if I gaze out of the window (not that I have time for that sort of thing!) and look between a couple of buildings, I can just about see the sea!!

Anyway, got to dash - someone's nicked my deckchair...

...mind that seagull!

Dangerous occupation this acting lark

As you probably know, there are a few of us from BHOS involved in the Pied Piper Productions "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". On Monday just gone, at a dance rehearsal, we were practising a move where we leapfrog over another guy, and one of my fellow non-gymnasts leapt over a colleagues back, only to dislocate both shoulders in mid-air as he pushed off !!!! OUCH !!! Rather put a dampener on the rehearsal.

Luckily, there doesn't appear to be anything too energetic in Sugar to cause similar problems. Having said that, Dunc and Sims false boobs may relocate themselves from time to time..........

Any good dentists in BH?

Anyone know of a good dentist in Burgess Hill? Ideally near the station or in the South West corner of the town.

Although it's now about 7 years since I moved down (and I use the word "down" advisedly!) from Lindfield to Burgess Hill, I've kept going to the same dentist in HH as it's just up the road from the office.

But in a few weeks, my office (well my job, not the actual office building!) is moving to Brighton, so an HH dentist wont be so convenient.

Any thoughts?

If you're adding links to your posts, you can make them hyperlinks (i.e. clickable) by using the third button from the left in the bar just above where you write your posts - it's next to the "I" for italics and looks like a globe with a number eight lying on it's side.

If you type the web address into your post (make sure it starts with "http://"), highlight it with your mouse, and then press ctrl + c to copy the text to the clipboard, press that globe button and then press ctrl + v to paste the text into the space provided, the HTML code to create that link will be inserted into your post.

Fantastic musicians in BH on Sat 12th June

Hi guys, don't know whether any of you are into gospelly/jazzy music, but following a hugely successful appearance at last year's Summer Festival, Kate Simmonds (www.katesimmonds.com) is returning to Burgess Hill with her outstanding band on Saturday 12th June at the Martlets Hall, starting at 7:30pm.

Kate and her band are known for exceptional music with notable gospel, jazz and R'n'B influences. This year is promised to be even bigger and better than last year!

The band includes:
* Mark Edwards on keyboards, who has just completed a tour with Chris Rea;
* Ben Castle (www.bencastle.com) on saxophone, "Rising Star" in the British Jazz Awards 2001, with numerous TV appearances including "Pop Idol", and currently touring with Jamie Cullum;
* Grammy-nominee Kevan Frost on bass.

The 'choir' features six of the best gospel vocalists in the UK, including Carla Hayles, runner-up in GMTV's gospel talent search.

They'll be featuring gospel classics, as well as some fantastic brand new songs.

Tickets are available from the Martlets Hall box office, either in person or on 01444 242888 and are priced at £5 of which £4.75 will go to this year's chosen, local charity - Bluebird Community Transport.

Doors open at 6:45pm.

I'm revising for my history exam on tuesday, "Peasants Lords and Merchants: the social and economic history of England and Wales" - yes it's as thrilling as it sounds! We have to answer 2 questions out of 8 so luckily I don't actually need to know everything! I'll try not to post too many random thoughts here - I do have quite a few when I'm meant to be working!

"Mail Delivery Failed" virus e-mails

I assume everyone's aware of this latest type of virus-ridden e-mail?

At first glance, they look like the sort of message an internet e-mail system would produce if you had tried sending an e-mail to an incorrect e-mail address, e.g. if you misspelt it. However, if you look at the text you'll see that typically these are either alleged to relate to e-mails you sent to e-mail addresses you've never heard of, or to e-mails you allegedly sent to yourself!!

These are obviously false. Most importantly, there are normally attachments that claim to give more info on the reason your alleged e-mail couldn't be sent - don't open these attachments as they're generally infected with a virus!

As always, the best thing to do with any e-mail you're not expecting or looks even slightly odd, is just to delete it without opening it.

Those of you who don't know what "BHOS" is, you might like to have a look at our main website.

If you know and love BHOS (and you're a member or a patron of the society), then you can apply to be a member of this 'BLOG'. Simply e-mail bhos_central@yahoo.co.uk and an invite will be sent to you shortly.

But "What is a 'BLOG'?" I hear you cry! It's basically a web-based notice board (a Web Log) where you can publish messages, thoughts, requests, something weird you just found on the internet / at the back of a cupboard / on the bottom of your shoe - any thing really. It's up to you guys!

Because of the cunning 'BLOGGER' web software, you don't need any special software on your PC so you can BLOG from any PC on which you have internet access. And because the ability to post messages is restricted to invited BLOG members only, there's no mediation - as soon as you press the 'Publish' button, your message is on the internet!

It should be said that standard boundaries of decency must be maintained (unsuitable posts will be deleted, and individual offenders will get a Yellow, and then a Red card!), and please bear in mind that although posting to this BLOG is restricted by invitation, anyone on the internet can view it.
